Friday May 15th

Minneapolis Jazz Guitar Duo consists of David Martin and Serdar G. The group plays their interpretations of the Jazz Standards.

David Martin is a guitarist and bassist, originally from Ohio/West Virginia. David has been residing in Minneapolis for the last 25+ years. He has recorded 3 albums from 2009-2016 with Mike Doolin. David’ latest album, Play On, was released in 2019 with vocalist Vicky Mountain. David plays locally with Salsa Del Soul, Beira Mar Brasil, The Bill Simenson Orchestra. He also works with many vocalists in the area including MaryAnn Sullivan, Vicky Mountain, and Paula Lammers.

Serdar G is originally from Ankara, Türkiye. Fascinated by the Blues music, he moved to US to pursue music. He has played in well known Reggae, Calypso and Soca Bands. Some of these bands include Cyril Paul and the Calypso Monarchs, Shangoya and two time Minnesota Music Awards winner Dred I Dread. Serdar has been playing guitar with Dred I Dread since 2001 and released 6 albums with the band. Serdar opened for The Wailers, Yellowman, Israel Vibration, The Meditations, Itals, Culture, De La Soul, Chronixx and many other international acts.

In addition to performing with various church organizations throughout her career, she is currently one of the lead vocalists for the rock band Twin Star Rocket. Becky also frequently performs with several notable Twin Cities acts, including Hot Brockoli, SoulShack, Rich Larson, BRB, and Deevo & N’em, & Guilty Pleasure Society. Recently, she has embarked on a solo career as both a recording and performing artist, showcasing her versatility through performances of classic rock, R&B, and jazz.

Geoff Jones is a singer who delivers crowd-pleasing jazzy soul in a smooth baritone. A veteran of Twin Cities stages and a former soloist with the Grammy Award-winning group Sounds of Blackness, Geoff has sung on numerous recordings and performed live with Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Dolly Parton, Elton John and others. TV appearances include The Tonight Show, Soul Train, and the NAACP Image Awards. He’s also the title character’s voice in Disney’s acclaimed animated short feature Tall Tales and Legends: John Henry.

Despite its moniker, byerSelf is more than your typical solo project; with its mesmerizing blend of modern covers and catchy originals, it will redefine what you thought the cello was capable of! byerSelf is the pseudonym of singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Greg Byers. The first jazz/classical cellist/bassist to graduate from the University of Miami, Greg’s pioneering musical style focuses on modern styles, improvisation, and integrating technology. Greg has performed and recorded with diverse artists such as Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Dr. John, Steve Miller, and Terence Blanchard.

Armed with only his voice, electric cello and pedalboard, byerSelf creates lush backdrops and infectious grooves. Every performance Greg amazes the audience with his instrumental virtuosity and heartfelt vocals. His charisma and on-stage energy guarantee an engaging, interactive show for fans of all ages and musical tastes. His tours frequently include clinics and workshops for young string musicians, where Greg helps the next generation of musicians unlock their creative potential.
